Class Announcements Field TripOur Field Trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science is on tomorrow. All children need to bring a Sack Lunch - clearly named please- and a drink. Disposable bags/containers will save the children having to carry around their belongings. Don't forget a morning snack too! Please wear comfortable shoes as we will be on our feet for most of the day. Coats/jackets are probably not required (although you know Colorado weather better than I do) as we will be inside for most of the day and don't want to be carrying extra items around and risk losing them.
This week's spelling test will be on Tuesday next week due to our short classroom week. There will be no additional spelling words or tests next week! We have a trip planned to see Peter Pan at PLHS on Wednesday (please return permission forms ASAP) Next week's 'News' theme will be "Things that I am Thankful for or Thanksgiving Stories" Hope that you are having a great week! Cool Science - Nov 7thDear Educator and Kid Serving Organizations:
Please spread the word and mark your calendars for “Cool Science at UCCS” on Saturday, November 7th. See attached flyers (color and B/W).
This FREE, fun science day for kids of all ages (primarily 2nd-8th grade) will be held at the UCCS University Center from 9am to 3pm. Come enjoy a carnival-type atmosphere with almost 30 different hands-on activity stations, mini-workshops and two big science magic shows at 9am and 1pm.
Enjoy the phenomenon of gazing at the night sky in the middle of the day in Challenger Learning Center’s “Stellar Portal” Planetarium or become an astronaut and pilot a life-size Space Shuttle Simulator! Other organizations that will have fun activities for kids of all ages include the Mining Museum, the Catamount Institute, the Dinosaur Resource Center, the Florissant Fossil Beds, the Colorado Springs Conservatory, the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale, COSROCs (Rockets), and the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society. Come find out how much fun science can be!
The fair is organized by Cool Science and the Center for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education at UCCS.
Cool Science is a local non-profit organization which engages Pikes Peak area students, parents and teachers in exciting hands-on activities and workshops designed to provide intimidation-free opportunities to explore the joy of science and engineering.
The Center for STEM Education (CSTEME) at UCCS is dedicated to partnering with parents, educators and industry to inspire and encourage students in their decisions related to careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
Location: UCCS Student Center, 1840 Austin Bluffs Pkwy, Colorado Springs CO Time: Shows at 9 AM and 1 PM; Activity Stations 10 AM - 3 PM (registration opens at 8:30) Information: 719-389-6431 www.coolscience.org or 719-255-5124 www.uccs.edu/pipes Share Time ThemesI would like to introduce Themes of the Week for children's share time. This will enable children to plan what they are going to say/share with their classmates and to prepare their share time in advance. At this stage I expect that share time should be more than just 'show and tell'. Learning to plan what you are going to say to a group of peers is a valuable exercise. There may be some weeks when children choose not to share and that is Ok, but generally I would encourage all children to participate as often as possible.
Next week's Theme is Halloween Fun. Children may talk about/ bring pictures of past halloween costumes, fun games that they have played, trick or treating stories etc. If your family does not usually participate in halloween activities it will be fine to share something else. Share time is usually a 2 - 3min presentation including 3 peer questions, I'm not expecting BIG performances (we don't have time for that)! Thanks for your support and cooperation. Harvest FestivalThe Harvest Festival will take place, in our classroom, on Friday October 30th from 11:15 - 12:25. Please contact our class parent Chris Thomas for details of what to bring and any help that is required.
As a class we will be making Rainbow Soup on Thursday and we will share this for lunch on Friday along with some other treats and goodies. It is requested that children may bring costumes to dress up in at school and that these costumes be based on a story book character. It would be great if your child could also bring the story book that their character is in. A school parade of Story Book characters will take place in the gym at 2pm. Discussion Topics Class Files
